WSOP Legend Chip Reese dies at the age of 56

Reese died today in his Las Vegas home on December 4th 2007. Some sources state that Reese died in his sleep from the effects of pneumonia, while friends of Chip, including Barry Greenstein and Doyle Brunson, speculate that his death might have been related to an earlier gastric bypass which caused a blood clot. Upon learning of Reese's death, Doyle Brunson stated, "He's certainly the best poker player that ever lived."

Phil Gordon from Full Tilt Poker.net wins

Six of the world's best poker professionals and one online qualifier from FullTiltPoker.net all met at the table on Thanksgiving Day to compete for a $1 million prize pool in the Full Tilt Poker.Net Championship at Red Rock Resort and Casino. Team Full Tilt member and best selling author and television host, Phil Gordon devoured the competition taking first place, winning $600,000.

Doyles Room back open for business to US players

Doyles Room was one of the last to close its doors to US players following the passing of the UIGEA. The passing of the legislation saw two of the big guns start the exodus and leave the US market, Party Poker and Pacific Poker. At the beginning of the year there were significant reductions in money being transferred to Doyles Room and this was followed by software provider Tribeca made the announcement that they were to leave the US market, leaving Doyles Room high and dry. With little choice and following considerable efforts to retain its US player base, Doyles Room withdrew from the US market on March 1st, 2007.

Absolute Poker Reveals Winner of Fourth Dream Package Tournament

A Texas Hold’em player who goes by the name CUTIEPI314 on Absolute Poker placed first in August 5th’s Dream Package online poker tournament, securing a prize package that grants him access to over $100 million in Texas Hold’em prize pool money. ”This is the fourth time we’ve awarded a prize package of this magnitude and we’re just getting started,” stated David Clainer, senior vice president for Absolute Poker.

Jerry Yang Wins the 2007 WSOP Main Event taking home $8.25 Million

Play at the 2007 World Series of Poker began with a massive field of 6,385 and with each player paying the $10,000 buy in, the first prize was a massive $8.25 Million. The final table had a range of nationalities including players from Denmark, Russia, Canada, South Africa, England and the United States. Yang, a 39-year-old psychologist and social worker from Temecula, California, caught an inside straight on the final card of the final hand and won the $8.25 million top prize at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino around 4 a.m.

Full Tilt Poker's Lee Watkinson Makes the Final Table at 2007 WSOP Main Event

Full Tilt Poker player Lee Watkinson finished strong at the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event. Watkinson took eighth place at the final table and earned $585,699 for his impressive play. Making his way through a field of 6,358 players, Watkinson displayed the poise and patience that separates the pros from the amateurs. Watkinson was eliminated at the final table by eventual champion Jerry Yang. Yang made an amazing call of Watkinson's all-in bet as Watkinson was trying to gather enough chips to make a run at the title.

Phil Hellmuth breaks his own record landing 58 WSOP money Finishes

In 1987 he won became the youngest ever player to win the WSOP main event by defeating two-time defending champion Johnny Chan in heads up play. Having won over 5 Million in WSOP prize money he sites 7th on the WSOP All Time Money List. With the 2007 World Series of Poker now complete and having placed 104th place in event # 8, the $2,000 buy in No Limit Hold Em tournament, Phil Hellmuth has guaranteed himself yet another accolade being the player to have made it to the money the most times in WSOP history.

English Smoking Ban in Effect - Poker Clubs & Card Rooms now Smoke Free

Well the talk is over and as of today, June 1st, England joined Scotland in banning smoking in all enclosed public places and workplaces. This means an end to smoking in poker clubs and card rooms across the country as the country moves into a new era which sees hefty fines to anyone caught lighting up in public and work places.
