WSOPC Returns to New Orleans

The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) has returned to New Orleans just months after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the historical city. The WSOPC is making its second consecutive run at Harrah's New Orleans with the Bayou Poker Challenge, the 11th WSOPC event on the 2005-2006 calendar.

Less than a year after the forces of nature which tore through New Orleans leaving thousands homeless, it seems things may at last be improving with Harrah's New Orleans casino open and contributing to the poker world as it always does. It is re-opening since shortly before the hurricane hit and has been welcomed by New Orleans residence and employees alike.

The Casino is an extensive operation featuring a 115,000 square-foot gaming floor, more than 2,000 slot machines, more than 90 table games and the largest poker room in the South.

With the cancellation of the World Series of Poker Circuit stop in Biloxi in September 2005 due to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, it now looks promising that the WSOPC New Orleans will go forward as expected.

"Poker is a big part of the history of our city," said Rick Korte, poker room manager for Harrah's New Orleans. "Last year, the WSOP Circuit came here for the first time and attracted a fabulous turnout. This year, poker is even more important to our players, local merchants, and the economy of New Orleans.

We are proud that the World Series of Poker is playing a role in the recovery of this".
