Ajax - Poker Starting Hand AJ
Ajax is the term used in poker for the starting hand Ace Jack (AJ). This is also referred to as 'Blackjack' or 'Jackass'. It is a fairly strong hand in late position but often runs into very playable hands such as AK and AQ. The biggest problem with the hand is that it is very difficult to see that you are beat, especially where you connect with top pair. The only way to get away from it is by using your judgment and not over committing to pots where you only hold a pair.
It is this reason that most experienced players will only play it from late position and only where there isn't any significant action prior to them. Hitting a board such as A-9-2 with AJ when up against a bigger ace is a recipe for trouble. You are likely going to be betting or calling two streets before you know you are behind - all of which costs you money.
