Connectors (Poker)

Connectors in poker is simply starting hands that follow in sequence, for example 8-9 or 2-3. Any two card combination that are in sequence or is one up or down is considered a connector. Where the cards are suited, they are described as 'suited connectors'.

Connectors in poker provide additional strength to a starting hand as it provides the potential to make a straight, 5 running cards in sequence that are not all the same suit. For instance if you hold 8 Spade 9 Spade this would be considered connectors whereas 8 Spade 9 Spade would be suited connectors. Where they are suited, this provides additional flush possibilities. Whilst the possibility is there you are still a dog to hit this hand. The fact that they are suited only adds around 2% to the probability that you will win with the hand against one other player.

Players tend to overplay connectors and suited connectors. As a rule, you should be looking to get in cheap and bet it up when you hit.
