'Odds on' to win
Odds on is a term used in poker to describe the situation where a player is getting better odds than even money to win a pot. To put this into context, let's look at a scenario.
You enter a pot holding 9-10 suited. You are in the position where you are up against a $20 bet made by your opponent on the river, into a $100 pot. If you call the bet you are getting 5-1 odds (20/100). If after calculating the number of outs that you have you work out that you are a 18% chance of hitting one of your outs, then you should fold. The term odds on, applies to situations where you are getting better than even money. In this situation you would need to have more than 20% (=5-1) to be odds on to make your winning hand.
This term is used outside of poker also and is regularly used in betting circles to indicate that the odds are in your favor.
