Two Pair (Poker)
Two pair is one of the more obviously names poker hands, yes you guessed it.
It is the third best hand that can be achieved above High Card and One Pair and third on the list in terms of probability of hitting.
Two pair will consist of two cards of the same value along with another two cards of the same value, for example, A
A
3

. Whilst this is only just better than a pair, flopping two pair can be a very strong position to be in, particularly if you are up against a big ace who has hit his ace. Additionally the mere fact that the bigger hands are hit less often gives additional strength to two pair. There is also the bonus that you have a possible four cards that can make you a full house, which opens the door for a semi bluff should it be required. Having said that, on the flop two pair will usually be good.
Of course the power of two pair does depend on the board. You should also be wary of scare cards on the board. Remember, three of a suit and a flush is possible, and when the board pairs, a full house and four of a kind are a possibility.
The odds of getting two pair are 20.1 : 1.
