Poker Strategy Guides for Texas Holdem
Poker strategy is an essential component of the game and if you have not already developed a strategy for your game then you have certainly come to the right place. Poker is a game based on decisions. If we knew when to call, when to fold and when to raise, the game would be easy. Unfortunately, we don't. The following strategy guides are largely based on Texas Holdem although many of the concepts carry across many different poker games. All top players adopt a strategy in ring games and in tournament play.
It is all based around the skills that enable you to get your opponent to commit his/her chips to the pot, particularly when you have the best hand. It involves deception to get your opponent to think he has the best poker hand when you are holding the best hand and also doubt he/she has the best hand when in fact you are behind. Players will very often bluff when they think that you have not got the cards to call with. Using our guides will teach you to learn how to play low limit games and win money using a number of different key principles.
We have a detailed guide which will show you there is a way to maximize your chances of winning.
Low Limit Holdem Strategy
Basic low limit Holdem is none too complex based on the level of skilled players that these games attract and the amount of money that is being wagered in these games. Our guides to playing low limit Holdem are based on well known strategies designed to help you win and maximize your profits.
Post Flop Guides
We hope that you enjoy these articles. Low limit games are fairly easy to win if you employ a simple game plan. Selective play is essential in low limit Holdem. It is very common in low limit games for players to be less skilled and as a result, you will see players calling hoping to make hands. This is good news for you as you will often be in the pot with the best hand (if you have followed advice). Be selective. Get in with the best hands and you will come out on top in the long run. Remember, don't throw away your game plan as a result of a bad beat. Bad beats all part of the game so you should get used to them.
In addition to these guides there are a number of other guides that will come in useful to you. Whilst it is important to understand how and when to play certain cards given the number of players in the pot, your position and strength of hand, it is also important to learn more advanced principles - especially if you want to be a winning player.
A good starting point is obviously the ranking of hands. Most games are played in that the best 5 card poker hand will take down the pot so if you are not familiar with the hierarchy you may be best served printing out our guide and posting it next to your monitor.
Once you are familiar with the rankings, you should learn the importance of seat position. In addition you may want to familiarize yourself with the premium Holdem starting hands which will show you the playable hands in a game of poker.
We also have guides on reading the board, bluffing, the odds of making your hand and calculating pot odds. Please visit our guides section where we feature dozens more guides for tournament play, sit'n'go tournaments and playing satellites.
