When we hear the name Betfair there are very few people who attribute the brand to one that operates an online poker room. Betfair is actually the largest betting exchange in the world. But online poker is also their game, and as such offer this subsidiary service to their members. The most recent changes to the product, sees their online poker brand debuting on the Playtech iPoker Network. This applies to both the dot.com and dot.ES networks. This means on both the international as well as Spanish networks.
They migrate away from Ongame, and this move was announced only a couple of weeks ago, although there will be a transitional period lasting six months. Ongame is being dropped in favour of an exclusive agreement with iPoker.
This online poker debut into Spain is the first entry into this newly regulated territory for Betfair Poker. It is being dubbed the New Betfair Poker, and according to the size of the brand they enter into the top tier. iPoker also recent split operators into separate tiers dependent on traffic received at various sites. While this has had the effect of marginalising some of the smaller brand from large player liquidity, Betfair need not be concerned as they join, Paddy Power, Bet 365, Titan, William Hill, Everest, and Poker770 at the top.
This big brand name should bring better player liquidity along to the iPoker Network, although they will still be offering Ongame product along for existing members who have grown used to it. How long Ongame will run tandem with iPoker, remains to be seen, but currently it is tucked away under a “classic poker” sub-menu. iPoker is currently jostling for pride of place with ParatyPoker and FTP for the “Silver Medal” of rankings.
