Limit 5 Card Stud Poker Rules
Detailed rules of 5 card stud can be found in our 5 card stud poker rules guide.
In limit stud, there is
a betting limit which in turn means that when raising a bet
made, you can only bet double the bet. A
different strategy is needed when playing Limit games as bluffing (especially in low stakes)
becomes more difficult because a player can call your bet only at the price of the bet or raise
(minimal risk to their stack). In no limit, bluffing is easier as you are able top put more pressure on your opponent. It is also considerably more expensive chasing cards.
Fixed-Limit games have two limit amounts specified. This could be $2/$4 or $20/$40. Look at a $20/$40 game - the small blind will be $20 and the big blind will be $40. These are the compulsory bets that must be made before play begins so every pot would start of with $60 to play for. In a limit game, bets after the blinds have been met would be $20 and raises would be $40 (maximum)- the only exception in a limit game would be if a player bets $20, the next player raises (to $40) and a third raise occurs- this would then be a raise for twice the bet, now $80.
The rules of the game (excluding what can be bet) are as 5 Card Stud. The game structure is set out below.
