Rules of Triple Draw Poker
Triple Draw is very similar to 5 Card Draw with the addition of an additional draw. There are 4 betting rounds and, as the name suggests - three draws. This means that there's plenty of chance to hit a big hand - of course, you're opponents have the same opportunities. There are two main variations of this game, Deuce to 7 and Ace to Five. We're going to look at both variations in this guide.
2-7 (Deuce to 7) Triple Draw
Deuce to 7 is a lowball game where the low hand takes down the pot at showdown. There are a total of three draws in a standard game and players may discard any or all of the five cards at each draw. Players are initially dealt 5 card cards face down. There is then a round of betting. At this stage in the same way as many other poker games, players can call, raise or fold. Remember if there is no bet, the minimum bet to stay in the hand will be the value of the big blind (see our guide on how to play the blinds). The blinds will be posted by the two to the left of the button, as normal.
After the round of betting, there is the first draw starting with the player to the left of the dealer button. There is then a second round of betting followed by the second draw. In all draws, the player to the left of the button kicks things off. There is then a third round of betting, followed by a third draw (the final one). There is then a fourth and final betting round followed by showdown (assuming there's more than one player in the pot). The player with the best low hand wins the pot. This game doesn't use the conventional poker hand rankings. It's worth remembering that in 2-7, aces are always high and straights and flushes count towards your hand. Here are the top 10 hands that can be made:
#1 7-5-4-3-2 (this is the nuts!)
#2 - 7-6-4-3-2
#3 - 8-6-4-3-2
#4 - 9, 7, 6, 4, 3
#5 - T, 6, 5, 4, 2
#6 - T, 6, 5, 4, 3
#7 - T, 7, 5, 4, 3
#8 - K, J, 8, 7, 4
#9 - A, 5, 4, 3, 2 (ace-high)
#10 - A, 8, 7, 4, 2
Ace to Five Triple Draw
Ace to Five is pretty much the same game. Everything is the same except how the hands are ranked. In this version, straights and flushes do not count towards your hand and aces are low. So the best hand you can make is A-2-3-4-5, otherwise known as a "Wheel" or "Bike".
