Ted Forrest Wins the Heads-Up Championship on NBC

Posted:April 2006

Last Sunday American viewers could see Ted Forrest defeat Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson heads-up in the NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship. Ferguson had to settle for second place, the same as he got last year.

The tournament was held on Caesars Palace in Las Vegas between March 4 and March 6, with a $20,000 buy-in. On Sunday the fight between the final four players were showed on NBC. Ferguson, who came second to Phil Hellmuth last year, were going a round against Huck Seed and came out as the winner. Before Forrest came to the semi final he had a hard three-hour match against Sam Farha. It was the longest match so far in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Forrest had the luck on his side and won two hands in a row with 55 and 99, both times Farha held two over-cards, and Forrest went on to win the match. In the semi-final Forrest beat Shawn Sheikan.

Ferguson won the first, out of three matches, against Forrest. But Forrest went on two win the last two in a row. Jesus earned $250,000 for his second place and Forrest got $500,000 in first price. To get the prestigious first price he beat Erik Seidel, Chad Brown, Ernie Dureck, Sam Farha, Huck Seed, and last but not least Jesus.

Forrest recently played in a mega high stakes heads-up game against Texas billionaire Andy Beal. He was up $7 million, before losing it all plus an additional $3.8 million. So this was a way for him to get back on track. "It was really important for me to have a strong showing in this tournament and kind of get my confidence back," he said after the tournament.
