High blind play during STT’s part 2
Posted:November 2011Following on from part 1 then and what tends to happen in these situations is that the other players if they become defensive and selfish can start to fold hoping that some other player will do the work for them.
So after you shove all in for T800, the cut-off holds 10-7 and would like to snap you off but folds and hopes that someone wakes up with a hand behind them. The same goes for the button. The small blind may have junk and if their stack size is such that they themselves cannot afford to lose T800 (like if they have around T2100) then they may fold also. So the big blind decides to keep you honest and calls but your Q-5 beats their J-9 and now you have T1900 and are back in business.
If you had folded then you would have been in trouble. The big blind takes you down to T600 and if a player min-raises to say 400 and it gets two callers then you have a horrible position. If you shove then you will get called by all the players and folding leaves you too low at only 600 in chips which will soon become T500 when you place the small blind.
