Posted:August 2012

It's always nice to be able to recognize tallent, and poker is no exception. Awards ceremonies take place all the time, all around the world, in pretty much every discipline there is. The fact that people like to get honors is nothing new, no matter their achievement.

2012 so far has been a big year in the poker world with some ground breaking tournaments and prize pools bigger than ever.

The 2012 British Poker Awards are coming up soon (sponsored by Genting), where ten different honours will be given away. Quite a few high-flying members of the British poker community are vying for these honours.

Nominees have been announced, and the categories are:

1. Best Cash Game Player

2. Best Tournament Player

3. Best Online Player

4. Poker Personality of the Year

5. Best Poker Forum

6. Best United Kingdom Poker Tournament

7. Best Poker Blogger

8. Best Poker League

9. Best International Player and Player of the Year – the public gets to choose the winners for most of the categories except for

10. Best International Player and POY which is chosen by a panel of judges

This particular award ceremony is in its third year of judging and it generally awards players for both performance on and off the felt.  Sam Trickett has two nominations - Best Tournament Player and Best Cash Player, while both Chris Brammer and Chris Moorman each have two nominations - Best Tournament Player and Best Online Player categories. Vicky Coren and Neil Channing are in with a chance to win for their contribution to the game off the felt, and their nominations are respectively - Poker Personality of the Year and Best Poker Blogger. Personally Vicky is probably a favorite here due to her background and he many TV appearances, including on Have i Got News for You.

It's going to be a tight competition with names being dropped such as Ben Grundy, Alexander Millar, Andrew Moseley, Fred Ogilvie, Kara Scott, Liv Boeree and Andrew Feldman, as well as many more big name players. It will also be interesting to see who comes out on top.
