William Hill Poker – Will They Exercise Their Call Option?

Posted:December 2012

There has been a considerable amount of talk around Playtech, one of the leading poker software providers, for some time now. Whilst they hold a strong position behind one of the largest poker networks around, some of their members have been struggling to post profits. For William Hill, Q3 numbers for 2012 were down quite drastically, and poker seems to be the only non-performer in their portfolio. As another possible problem looms, William Hill, the huge British Gambling brand partnered with Playtech, and the date for their call option is looming. Playtech enjoys a 29% share holding in Will Hills online gambling business Joint Venture, of which poker is one of the divisions.

William Hill PokerPundits are pretty certain that the call option will be exercised, because there has been some dissension between the two from the beginning. The call option provides William Hill Poker with the rights to buy back their shares at the end of 2012. Playtech has even already confirmed that should the sale take place, they would "ensure a smooth handover of the business".

They also seem to be of the opinion that they will remain the main service provider to the William Hill brand, however, with the iPoker network failing to thrive, we wouldn't be surprised if William Hill exercised more than just the call option.

It shouldn't be too big a problem for Will Hill to raise the money required to make this purchase. They are one of the leading gambling brands in the UK and have one thing going for them - massive liquidity. The company has long been established and owns thousands of retail sports-books across the British Isles and Europe. This makes it a very reliable poker site to take your business.

Currently William Hill Poker has some good Christmas deals going – new members get started with a very warm welcome of 200% in a cash match bonus on first deposits. Deposit £50 and get £100! There is also a £500 Free-bet Free-roll for depositors of £10 or more in an opt-in tournament. On a separate note - we would like to congratulate Will Hill Poker Champion – Tim Hartmann who won the Irish Winter Festival Main Event.
