WSOP USA - Closer To An Online Poker Site
Posted:January 2013Online poker players outside of the USA have had access to the official WSOP online poker site for a number of years. When Caesars Entertainment Corp (the owners of the World Series of Poker brand) decided to go online with gambling to the UK and European facing audience, they chose as a partner the 888.com brand. This partnership will obviously have been a really good gamble for 888, because firstly who could go wrong with the Caesars brand? And now that online gambling is getting going legally in Nevada, they get a foot in the door before many other online gambling brands.
Here it is also interesting to note that the first gambling games to go live online will actually be poker. Having said all of that, Caesars Entertainment has been granted formal approval to offer online poker to a Nevada audience. Admittedly, this is only intrastate poker at the moment, but at least it is a foot in the door. Of course if a Federal bill is passed, then this foot in the door become more like “the world is their oyster”, as the US gambling audience is a nothing short of MASSIVE. If Federal legislation does not come about, it looks certain that a state-by-state patchwork will definitely be formed. More and more US states are looking to this new industry to help boost denuded state tax coffers.
The WSOP is a world recognised, and very well respect poker brand. Having ownership could prove to be immensely lucrative to the company, probably more so than it has been with the European-facing audience. They believe that “the real opportunity is in the United States.” We believe they know their business, and things are about to eventually change in the online poker scene, particularly in the USA.
