Black Jack (Ace - Jack)

Black Jack or Ajax is the name of the most famous Casino card games as well as the slang for the Hold'em starting hand Ace jack (AJ). Ace Jack is a pretty good hand, especially suited, but be mindful of table position.

In late position, particularly when no one has raised before the action gets to you, you should put in a raise. In early of middle position this is not a raising hand. You should look to call and see what the flop brings you. Ace Jack suited is the 8th best Holdem starting hand behind AA, KK, QQ, AK(s), AQ(s), JJ and KQ(s). Still a lot of common starting hands which would have AJ in trouble so you should play carefully.

Ace Jack unsuited up against AK unsuited will win only 24.02% of the time, up against AQ will only win 23.62% of the time. Playing suited cards only adds 2 or 3 percent so don't be fooled into thinking you have a better hand than you actually do. Up against Aces, AJ is just under an 8% dog and a 28.61% dog against cowboys.

How to Play Black Jack (AJ)

Carefully, would be a start. It is much like big slick and AQ, looks nice but can get you into a whole lot of trouble very easily. If on the flop you miss, be careful calling big bets hoping to catch as if the straight of flush isn't there, the best you could hope hit is a pair or two pair unless you get lucky and hit trips. Odds are stacked up against you. Again in early position don't go betting the house. This is a calling hand in early and middle position. In late position, call, don't re-raise pre flop particularly if up against an early raise. If you miss everything on the flop and you are raised - get rid of it, there will be better opportunities.

See - Ajax.
