Real Money Foray Into Online Poker For Zynga

Posted:July 2012

For most that are familiar with Facebook, in particular those that like to play poker, Zenga will not be a name they are not familiar with. Not only is it a site that doesn't cost to play, but it has the largest number of players at it's tables, even toppling the might of Pokerstars. There has been talk and speculation running rife, regarding whether or not Zynga Poker would foray into the real money online poker industry, and now it seems that this is going to take place. An announcement which put rumour-mongers to bed was recently made. Zynga will launch a real-money online poker application in early 2013.

As new mobile gaming entities have entered the marketplace over the past year, Zynga has battled to keep their previously strong foothold in the industry. Their solution to this problem is to offer real-money poker which will be launched into international markets next year. The company’s latest quarterly earnings report says that sales of $332.5 million have missed the forecast $343.1 million mark. These results have set stock prices plummeting to a low $3.03 per share. In after-hours trading these stocks dropped even further, and this seems to be a continuing trend.

Mark Pincus – CEO of Zynga poker (and all Zynga games) – has blamed the shortfall in earnings, on algorithm changes at Facebook. So, it has finally come to light that Facebook cannot be depended upon to piggy-back all of their earnings. Apparently the changes mean that these algorithms surface fewer games; despite the fact that this game of poker accounts for 15% of ALL Facebook earnings.

A real money poker game for Zynga - especially now when the USA market looks set to regulate - could mean a massive financial boon for this company. They would no longer have to be dependent of Facebook to get their product out to the public, which would mean significantly more revenue for them.  To put this into perspective – Zynga earned approximately $97.1 million per month in the second quarter of 2011, while Bwin.Party poker earned approximately $261.9 million per month. Add real money online casino games into the Zynga mix and this company, with its massive data-base of customers, could be singing a different tune to shareholders.
