WSOP November 9 - Results

Posted:November 2011

The 2011 $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event kicked off back in July with some 6,865 players taking to the field for this prestigious event. With 693 paid places, play was fast and intense. Play was to run all the way down to the final 9 players, who were to be invited back  to the Penn and Teller Theater for the November Finals. The results down to 4 were:

9th Place - Sam Holden (United Kingdom) - $782,115

8th Place - Anton Makiievskyi (Ukrane) - $1,010,015

7th Place - Badih Bounahra (Belize) - $1,314,097

6th Place - Eoghan O'Dea (Ireland) - $1,720,831

5th Place - Phil Collins (USA) - $2,269,599

4th Place - Matt Giannetti (USA) - $3,012.700

In what was gearing up for a tense final, it took 51 hands for the first casualty. Ben Lamb raised under the gun to 1.7 Million and play folded round to Sam Holden who re-raised all in for just over 11.1 Million. Sam Holden was left in anguish as he turned over his A(c) J(c)  only to find himself dominated against the A(h) K(c) of Lamb. The flop came A98 Clubs which left Holden needing to hit a J that wasn't a Club. Any hope was short lived with the Q (c) on the turn making Lamb the flush and sending Holden to the rail in 9th winning $782,115. Lamb only went from strength to strength, making the top 3 and taking home $4 Million.

Anton Makiievskyi was soon to follow with his KQ being put to bed by Pius Heinzs' full house on the turn on the 59th hand of the final table. Still, with Makiievskyi taking home just over $1 Million - not a bad days work.

By now Heinz had a commanding chip lead and it didn't take long to see Bounahra and O'Dea to hit the rail a cool $ 1.7 Million better off. The very next hand, Phil Collins A7 was sent packing against the 99 of Heinz. With only 4 left, Giannetti was next to go on hand 174 with Lambs A7 (h) making a flush on the turn. Giannetti didn't look too broken having netted a cool $3,012,700.

The final 3 opened play with Heinz with a commanding chip lead, sitting on 107,800,800 chips. Lamb had 55,400,000 and Stansko 42,700,000.

It didn't take long with Lamb falling on the 4th hand taking home just over $4 Million. The final showdown came when Stansko open shoved with 10(c) 7(c) and was insta-called from Heinze who quickly turned over A(s) K(c). With the Ace of Heinz holding up, it sent Stansko out as runner up and a fat wallet, $5,433,086 heavier.

By Heinz admission, 'I almost couldn’t catch my breath because it was just an awesome feeling'. Heinz took the coveted WSOP 2011 Main event bracelet and $8.7 million.
